Amelanchier alnifolia (Serviceberry)

Also called: Saskatoon

Serviceberry is a shrub or small tree up to 15 feet in height and often just at large around.  It prefers well draining soils and is very drought tolerant, happy with a wide range of soil moisture from rocky and dry to moist.  Serviceberry likes the sun but grows well with partial shade and can be found growing just about anywhere, along forest edges to open slopes and roadsides.   Serviceberry blooms very well in the spring with purple edible berries in the summer.   Birds love the sweet berries which makes this a great choice as a wildlife shrub.  Please contact us with any questions.
