Mahonia aquifolium (Tall Oregon Grape)

Other names: Oregon Grape

Tall Oregon Grape is an evergreen shrub that can reach heights of nine feet, but six feet is much more common.  It may spread very slowly by rhisomes, so allow for a three to four foot spread.  Tall Oregon Grape prefers full sun to partial shade with well draining soils, becoming quite drought tolerant once established so little care is needed.  Vivid yellow flower clusters in early spring give way to clusters of dark purple berries which birds relish.  Although the berries are very sour, they can be made into jelly.  Tall Oregon Grape makes a great hedge plant.  Please contact us for availability and pricing.
