Salix scouleriana (Scoulers Willow)
Willow that grows best in drier areas
Willow that grows best in drier areas
Scoulers Willow is a shrub or small tree that grows quite tall, reaching heights of 30 feet or more. Scoulers Willow grows in a wide range of habitats and will tolerate dry sites much better than most willows. It prefers sunny and fairly moist sites, but will grow in sunny dry upland sites also. It is an important browse for big game and is valuable for erosion control near seasonal streams. Scoulers willow also is a popular "pussy willow" since the catkins appear before the leaves.
