Douglas Spirea is an erect, shrub with long leggy branches that grow up to 6 feet in height. It is a wetlands plant, so it needs moist soils and prefers full sun or part shade. It is found commonly growing along sloughs, streams, and ponds. Regular garden watering is all that is needed to keep Douglas Spirea happy in the garden. The large pink to red spire like blooms are very attractive and attract butterflys. Douglas Spirea makes and excellent plant for streambank stabilization projects and wetlands rehabilitation.
